Bird flu: 12 states confirm infection; after Shikhar Dhawan pic, trouble for boatmen who allowed feeding birds

The Centre on Sunday confirmed chook flu in 9 states for poultry birds, reported ANI.  “Until twenty fourth January, 2021 outbreaks of Avian Influenza (chook flu) have been confirmed in 9 States (Kerala, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab) for poultry birds,” ANI quoted a press release by Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

The flu has been confirmed in 12 states thus far –– Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab –– for crow, migratory or wild birds.

“Nonetheless, crow/pigeon samples submitted from Rudraprayag, Lansdowne Forest Vary and Paudi Forest Vary of Uttarakhand; pigeon samples from Sriganganagar district of Rajasthan; crow and peacock samples from Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh have been discovered unfavourable for Avian Influenza,” the assertion stated.

Motion to be taken towards Varanasi boatmen for permitting vacationers to feed birds throughout boat-ride

Varanasi district Justice of the Peace Kaushal Raj Sharma has stated motion might be taken towards the boatmen who didn’t comply with the rules laid down by the administration and allowed vacationers on their boats to feed the birds amid flu, reported ANI. The motion comes after a photograph shared on social media by cricketer Shikhar Dhawan wherein he was seen feeding birds throughout a ship trip in Varanasi amid chook flu raised considerations amongst netizens.

Posting the image, Dhawan wrote: “Happiness is feeding birds.”


Rajasthan: Chicken flu confirmed in 17 districts

Avian Influenza (chook flu) has been confirmed in 17 districts of Rajasthan. In accordance with the state’s animal husbandry division, a complete of 6,595 birds have been discovered lifeless within the state between December 25, 2020, and January 24, 2021
